David Cameron branded a wannabe hero by Gaddafi's son

01:47 |

David Cameron was mocked by Col Gaddafi’s son yesterday over his gung-ho threat to attack Libya.

Saif al-Islam accused Mr Cameron of trying to be a “hero of history” and treating Libya like a “joke”.

Mr Al-Islam claimed the Prime Minister had handled the crisis “very badly” and taunted: “He has all the freedom to say whatever he wants. We’re not listening to him.

“But if using force on Libya is happening, then we are ready. You come, we are not afraid.”

And he again stressed his dictator father’s determination to cling to power no matter the bloodshed as he vowed: “We are Libyans. We live here, we die here.”

But further signs of the crisis engulfing the country were clear yesterday as 10,000 refugees besieged its Tunisian border, which 110,000 have already fled across.

Meanwhile, Mr Cameron hastily backtracked on his belligerent posturing 24 hours earlier, when he went further than any other world leader and threatened air strikes, a no-fly zone and arming rebels."
